What Is A "Money Mindset"?
For years, I've written and spoken about the importance of being aware of and understanding your money mindset because your money thoughts create your money results. Check out my latest podcast interview with Christie Ruffino!
Your money mindset is made up of sub-conscious beliefs about money in general, and your personal finances in particular. They impact how you make financial decisions every day, and the action you take that creates your current results. To get the results you want, it's very important to recognize if your thoughts and attitude towards money is positive or negative.
How To Change Your Money Mindset
Ever notice we don't have to work at thinking negatively? That's because we're hard-wired to focus on the negative. Developing a positive attitude takes work!
According to The National Science Foundation, our brains produce as many as 50,000 thoughts per day. Of those 50,000 thoughts, 80% are negative. And, we ruminate on 95% of our thoughts unconsciously. For instance, if you have a personal history with money that's negative, you're probably dwelling on those memories and creating a negative money mindset. My friend Erin Botsford calls this "stinkin' thinkin'"!
To change your money mindset, change your thoughts about money. In other words, get your "itty bitty committee" - those voices in your head - to work in your favor. Dr. Daniel Amen refers to the "itty bitty committee" as "ANT's" - automatic negative thoughts.
Find Your Money Mindset
To determine if your money mindset is positive or negative, check in with yourself. What happens when you think about money? Do you feel stressed, or calm? Does it cause feelings of lack, or abundance? For example, if you think about saving money, is your first thought "I live paycheck to paycheck"? Check in with your results. Are you either on track or where you want to be financially? If your mindset is negative, or has room for improvement, you're not alone. Where To Find Help
Coping with money issues, both practically and psychologically, is a huge challenge for millions of people. The Money Coaching Institute is a nationally recognized training center for coaches that want to help people create more purposeful and prosperous lives through education, awareness and empowerment. The Money Coaching process helps people solve common problems associated with money choices, patterns, and the day-to-day management of money mindset issues.
People often have unconscious patterns, beliefs and behaviors around money that prevent them from fully experiencing their true potential and purpose. Money Coaching assists individuals in identifying and moving beyond their limiting beliefs. This can result in much greater personal satisfaction, increased abundance, and enhanced success in life.
My Personal Money Coaching Experience
When I went through the training to become a Certified Money Coach, I learned things about myself that changed my life. For instance, I connected the dots to why some people (even in the same family) succeed naturally, while others constantly struggle. By going through the training, I discovered my limiting beliefs around money. For instance, once I became conscious of my negative thoughts, I learned how to reverse them. And, my life changed for the better. It is one of the reasons I am so passionate about helping others discover their automatic money patterns, beliefs and behaviors. I learned that to be successful, your focus needs to be on developing a positive money mindset.
When you reach a heightened level of awareness of the gap between where you are and where you want to be, you will be ready to transform your life and experience the big, bold life of your dreams.
