How Dave Ramsey Makes Decisions

why is it so hard to make decisions?

Making big decisions is a challenge.  We put so much pressure on ourselves to get it right.
Would if we make the wrong choice?  Will I get a do-over?
While scouring the internet for tips on making important decisions, I came across a Dave Ramsey episode where he showed how he filters out the "mental noise"  to make a decision and avoid second-guessing himself.

It takes a system...

I was listening to a recent Dave Ramsey episode where he demonstrated the process he uses when making important decisions.  I’ve followed Dave for many years.  Normally, I manage to take away a golden nugget or two of wisdom from his show, and this episode was no exception.

When I’m working with clients, I notice that when a decision holds a high level of importance, it’s hard to set aside emotions.  Ramsey’s disciplined, logical approach is on point and very easy to follow.

Sort through the noise...

Dave uses a scorecard approach to make his final decision.  By listing and prioritizing his values (what is important to him) he rates the options by which one checks the most boxes.  He stresses the importance of not limiting the decision to only one or two issues.  He recommends using a broad spectrum of agenda items and prioritizing them.  Dave never expects to score any decision at 100%.  By prioritizing issues, and rating each option based on the one that checks the most boxes in order of priority, Dave avoids second-guessing himself.

I was very impressed with Dave’s level-headed, systematic process.  It reminds me of the strategy I teach clients when they find themselves at a crossroads, struggling to discern which way to turn.  I believe this system is useful for nearly all major decisions.  Whether you’re trying to decide when to retire, change jobs, move, or who to vote for, consider following Dave’s system.

I thought I would share his message, not because of the outcome of his decision, but rather to show how he made his decision.  If you have a big decision that’s keeping you up at night, this video may help.  He helped me, and I believe his system will help you too.  Here is the link to his show, thought I’d share!
