Are You A Bucket Lister?
If you haven't created a bucket list, or if the last couple of years put your dreams on hold, here's 3 great reasons to have a bucket list!
What Is A Bucket List?
Simply put, it is a collection of goals, dreams and experiences that you want to accomplish within your lifetime. Or, said another way, before you "kick the bucket". The basic meaning of a bucket list is to keep track of your goals and to take steps to achieving these goals in order to optimize the opportunity for creating a big, bold life.
For example, your bucket list allows you create a step by step process for attaining goals. It also gives you the ability to break your wish list down into smaller, bite-sized activities.
Let's say you have a goal to run a marathon, but you've never run a race before. Where would you begin? You might want to participate in a shorter race, like a 5K for example, and gradually build up to running in a marathon for instance.
Here are 3 great reasons reasons to create or update your bucket list.
Keeps Fun Top Of Mind
Let's face it, life is short. Fun experiences are like adding the right amount of seasoning to a favorite recipe. Without it, the dish is flat. Your definition of fun is unique to you. It doesn't have to be expensive, exotic or outrageous. How do you feel when you think about having fun? For me, I could be having the worst day ever. If I pause to think about something fun, my mood instantly shifts to one that is positive. Best of all, I feel lighter, inspired and energized.
What Gets Measured, Get’s Improved
Your bucket list is a place to hold your dreams, hopes and goals. Take time to dream big! Think of how satisfied you will feel when you check things off your list. You can use your bucket list as a way to track your progress. If one of your bucket list items seems daunting, try to break it down into smaller steps. Even small victories contain special magic to inspire action. Instead of talking about doing something, you discover a renewed sense of direction, purpose and motivation. A well-crafted bucket list can be the push you need to live your dreamed-of big, bold life.
Leaves Deep Footprints In The Sand
Typically, when people create goals they tend to put themselves in a box. Often they set restrictions based on their current financial situation and available free time. When the time limit is "before you kick the bucket" (instead of this month or year) endless possibilities appear. By creating a bucket list with all the things you want to do, (even if they seem outrageous), limitations of fear, time and money seem to disappear.
By following your passions and accomplishing goals, you leave an inspiring legacy of your personal values for future generations. Family, friends and even strangers will remember the best parts of you and be inspired to follow in your big, bold footsteps.
